Im a Specialist Counseling Consultant and Addictions Counsellor at Adferiad Recovery, an all-Wales Mental Health & Substance Misuse charity. I Lead on Cynnal, a counselling service for all clergy, ministers of religion, Christian workers, and their families. Enfys, a counselling service for all doctors and health workers in Wales. Beat the Odds, a counselling service for gamblers and their families. I also lead on and organize residential retreats.

Outline of offer

I satisfy all the above requirements having qualified as an Addictions counsellor from the University of Bath my placement was carried out at Rhoserchan, in Mid Wales, where I completed the requisite number of supervised placement hours I was also completed a two-year full-time course (minimum 450 hours classroom-based tutor contact) at CATS, the Centre for Addiction Treatment Studies at Warminster under the charity, Action on Addiction.

Experience

WEO is a Specialist Counselling Consultant to Adferiad Recovery Institute. He is Founder and lead on the following national programmes:

  • CYNNAL (the counselling service for all clergy, ministers of religion, and their families)
  • ENFYS (which supports doctors and health workers with substance misuse and complex mental ill health) 
  • BEAT THE ODDS (which offers treatment and ongoing support and aftercare to excessive gamblers and their families)

He was the Founding Chief Executive Officer of Stafell Fyw Caerdydd/ Living Room Cardiff, a bilingual, community based recovery centre which now has outreach centres in Carmarthen, Caernarfon, Colwyn Bay, Wrexham and Aberystwyth. Prior to that he was Chief Executive Officer to the Welsh Council on Alcohol and Other Drugs. Prior to that he was CEO of the Welsh Council on Alcohol and Other Drugs. - He provides independent secretarial support to the Welsh Governments Cross-Party Group on Gambling Related Harm is a member of a Task & Finish Group advising the First Minister for Wales and the Minister for Mental Health, Wellness and the Welsh Language on the actions to be taken to tackle gambling related harm in Wales he also represents Adferiad Recovery helping NICE develop guidelines on gambling: Identification, diagnosis and management.

He has a Fsc. Foundation degree in Science in Addictions Counselling (University of Bath) - Qualified Teacher Status (Cyncoed College of Education – now Cardiff Metropolitan University) - L.C.C.M.D. in Speech & Drama (Welsh College of music & Drama) - And is a Winston Churchill Fellow – U.S.A (2010).

In a previous existence he was an actor, writer and director and was responsible for 350 hours of broadcast material over 40 years. He has published several books and is a Churchill Fellow and member of the Gorsedd of Bards. He was also the recipient of the (IWA) Institute of Welsh Affairs’ Citizen’s Choice Inspire Award - He’s honorary Member of the Welsh Academy - President of the Carmarthen Bay Film Festival
